I wanted to put down where Kingz stands today, where it's going, and why it was created in the first place.
Kingz is still one of my favorite projects to work on. I grew up using forums. Building one of my own was always a vision of mine. I knew I had what it took to build a forum from the ground up, stay consistent, and put out the things I've always seen as a positive for the forum space. That's exactly what I've been doing.
The vision is simple. Keep building and pushing out cool shit that benefits the community and the forum space as a whole. I don't see myself as competing with anyone.
I'll admit, Kingz lost its momentum activity wise. I have 0 excuses for it. All I can do is learn from it, continue on, and wait for the right timing. What I won't do is stop. The features we have today were built for a much bigger community than the one we have now, so whenever more eyes land on Kingz, it's already set up to handle it.
I've had offers to buy Kingz out. All of them were denied. This is more of a side hobby to me than a job. I enjoy building and setting new standards for the forum space. Other forums have taken my ideas and used them to their advantage. We all do it, that's part of the game. Things I envisioned after being part of forums for over a decade, I brought to life, other forum owners liked what they saw, and implemented it themselves - and vice versa with me. It's actually perfect.
Getting attention to a forum now is harder than it's ever been. Discord and Telegram are treated as the primary source for communities, and that's where almost all the attention goes. If you built something years ago, before either of those took over, you got all of it. Now you're up against a server that takes ten minutes to set up and promotes itself easier than a forum ever could. Forums are a graveyard in that sense, and there's not much interest in building them anymore.
But I think that changes for anyone who's used forums their entire life. Moving to only Discord or Telegram removes the experience of profile customization, thread customization, reach, all of it gone. Those are things neither platform can reproduce, and why forums will always have that upperhand. It's still understandable though. You adapt or you die.
So, Kingz is going back to what works. The basics, the simplicity of a forum. This current version is what we all grew up visualizing and using, and why fix something that never broke? I won't say venturing into different venues was a mistake, I see it as a learning experience. Trying new things never hurt as long as you learn from it. What's proven to work, works, and that's what I'm sticking to.
Most of our growth right now is organic SEO, and it keeps improving. That's our best source of new activity at the moment.
The hard part of running a smaller community is that feedback is minimal. Picking the next direction ends up being my own ideas and thoughts, which could easily be something nobody actually wants.
Our marketplace presence is strong, but that's 90% of the forum. Community is the other part and it matters just as much. Feeling like an actual member of something is what makes the experience worth it, rather than it feeling like a store you pass through. Moving forward, I want to pull the community together more than it is now. That's not an overnight change and I understand that.
The biggest help is spreading the word. Making the people who don't know about Kingz aware of it, and giving the ones who already know a reason to give us a second chance.
So I've made that worth something. You can earn commission off anyone you refer to Kingz. Whoever you bring in stays tied to your account, and you earn from them for as long as they're here. This is lifetime. It won't be lowered, capped, or taken away at any point.
Kingz is nearing 4 years, and we've been consistent with features and changes the whole way. I hope that's proven I'm here for the long term and that this was never a money grab. I'm here to build the best fucking forum within our niche. That isn't on me alone though. I'll always do my part as an administrator, but an admin doesn't carry a forum. Community does.
I'm not building this for the short term. If it takes years to build a solid foundation, that's fine, years is the vision. I'm a consistent man and I'll be here.
