Helium's token had a big day. $HNT climbed close to 100% (reports vary between 90 and 100%) after news that Celina, Texas, one of the fastest growing cities in the US, is routing cellular traffic through public Wi-Fi hotspots built on Helium's network, reportedly handling around 100 GB of data a day.
This is a real world usage story rather than a pure hype pump. Helium's whole pitch since it pivoted away from LoRaWAN IoT has been decentralized wireless coverage, hotspot operators get rewarded in $HNT for providing network capacity that telecoms and municipalities actually use. A city government putting meaningful daily traffic through the network is the kind of adoption data point the project has been chasing for years, and traders reacted accordingly.
Worth remembering that Helium has had spikes like this before on partnership news that didn't always translate into sustained usage growth. The token has a long history of volatility tied to headlines about carrier deals and municipal pilots, some of which scaled and some of which didn't go much further than a press release. Nothing here confirms whether Celina's setup is a one off pilot or the start of wider rollout to other towns.
Anyone know if there's a public dashboard tracking the actual hotspot throughput in Celina, or is this all coming from Helium's own reporting?
