Some background first, because the name is the whole story.
Niu Lai (牛來), "Here Comes the Bull", is an 86 minute Chinese animation about a calf that took 7,700 yuan, roughly $1,145, in its first ten days after releasing on 5 August. Then people started posting about how bad the animation was, and mockery turned into a box office run past 25 million yuan. Chinese retail traders adopted it after a brutal drawdown in momentum stocks, reading the film as an allegory for their own market: the cobra as the K-line chart, the wolves as everything else.
The calf befriends a young leopard called Bao La (豹拉). The name reads as a sharp spike upward. Bloomberg Opinion wrote the meme up on 25 August.
$豹拉 on BNB Smart Chain sits at a $522,962 cap with $726,708 traded in 24h, 1.39 times its own market cap, across 3,021 buys and 2,310 sells at an average $136 a trade. 2,578 holders. The pool is 15 days old, which puts the launch right in the middle of the film going viral. Up 183% on the day: $100 at the start of that window is about $283 now.
I could not find any statement from the film's producers about this token, and no specific event in the last day or two that explains today's leg. The buy/sell split is at least balanced, so people are getting out as well as in.
