Russia puts an end to the last significant nuclear agreement with the US
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia is suspending its participation in the New START treaty, the last remaining nuclear arms control pact with the United States, due to tensions with Washington over the fighting in Ukraine. Putin accused the US and its NATO allies of declaring the goal of Russia's defeat in Ukraine and said that Russia should be ready to resume nuclear weapons tests if the US does so, which would end a global ban on nuclear weapons tests. The New START treaty sets caps on the number of nuclear weapons and broad inspections of nuclear sites, but Putin said that such inspections no longer make sense after the US and its allies helped Ukraine mount strikes on Russian nuclear facilities. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken deplored Putin's move as “deeply unfortunate and irresponsible,” and NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg voiced regret about Putin's decision.

Small plane crashes on Philippine volcano, with wreckage confirmed and crew status unknown
A small plane carrying two Filipino pilots and two Australian passengers has been found crashed on the slopes of Mayon volcano, one of the most active volcanoes in the Philippines. The plane had gone missing after taking off on Saturday en route to Manila. The condition of the crew and passengers is not yet known. Thick clouds had made it difficult for rescue teams to spot the wreckage during the search. Only the tail section of the plane remained intact. Search and rescue teams are making their way to the crash site on Wednesday after weather conditions cleared.

UN peacekeepers killed in Mali by roadside bomb attack
Three United Nations peacekeepers were killed and several others were severely injured in central Mali due to a roadside bomb attack on Tuesday. The United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali announced that the bomb struck a supply convoy near the village of Songobia. This unfortunate incident shows the complexity of the environment in which peacekeepers are working. Since 2013, 168 peacekeepers have been killed in Mali. Al-Qaida and ISIS-linked violence have led to widespread unrest in Mali, leaving thousands of people dead. The West African country is among the world’s most dangerous places to serve on a peacekeeping mission.

Thailand's Prime Minister plans to dissolve Parliament in March ahead of May general election
Thailand's Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha has announced that he plans to dissolve Parliament in March and hold a general election in May. Prayuth's government's term expires on March 23, and he has set May 7 as the election date. Prayuth has headed a coalition government and is seeking another term, but the opposition Pheu Thai party has been making a strong showing in early polls, and there is no clear front-runner in the race so far. Under Thailand’s Constitution, prime ministers do not have to be elected lawmakers. The joint session of the lower house and the Senate selects the prime minister.

Majority of UK Companies to Continue 4-Day Workweek Trial with Happier Employees
A trial of a four-day workweek in the UK, billed as the world's largest, has found that most companies will continue with the shorter hours and that most employees were less stressed and had better work-life balance. Companies reported revenue largely stayed the same during the trial period last year and even grew compared with the same six months a year earlier. The university's team worked with researchers from Boston College, Autonomy, and the 4 Day Week Global nonprofit community to see how the companies from industries spanning marketing to finance to nonprofits and their 2,900 workers would respond to reduced work hours while pay stayed the same. Of the workers, 60% said it was easier to balance work and responsibilities at home, while 73% reported increased satisfaction with their lives.

Growing North Korean Nuclear Arsenal Raises Concerns and Uncertainty
North Korea's recent missile launches have heightened concerns about the country's expanding nuclear arsenal. While North Korea has missiles that can strike Japan, South Korea, and the US mainland, it is uncertain if it has the technical ability to attach a nuclear warhead to those missiles. The country's nuclear tests demonstrate it has atomic bombs, with estimates ranging from 20 to 115, but it is unclear whether they are small enough to fit on a missile. The fear is that North Korea may eventually acquire this technology, which could lead to global political tensions and potential military conflicts. The article highlights the risks and implications of North Korea's nuclear program.

Will Smith reflects on his 2022 Oscar win and controversy in a recent TikTok post
Will Smith appears to be referencing his controversial 2022 Oscars win in a recent TikTok post. In the video, he appears alongside a TikToker who suggests that asking objects how they perceive you can change your life. Smith seems to be questioning what his Oscar statue would say about him if it could talk. During the 2022 Academy Awards ceremony, Smith’s behavior caused public backlash after he climbed the stage to assault presenter Chris Rock. Moments later, he won the Academy Award for Best Actor, but he did not apologize to Rock during his acceptance speech. In April 2022, Smith was banned from attending the Academy Awards ceremony for 10 years.

Alec Baldwin's Attorneys Withdraw Gun Charge Challenge, Slam Prosecution in Rust Shooting Case
Alec Baldwin's lawyers have withdrawn their motion challenging the gun enhancement charges, which prosecutors in New Mexico dropped from criminal charges for the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of "Rust" in October 2021. Baldwin still faces a charge of involuntary manslaughter, which carries a sentence of 18 months if convicted. His first virtual court appearance is scheduled for Friday. Baldwin's defense attorneys criticized the prosecution's special prosecutor's characterizations of Baldwin's counsel as "fancy lawyers" who were attempting to distract from the case.

Fatal explosion at welding company in Florida leaves 2 dead and 3 injured
Two people have died and three others were injured in an explosion at a welding company in Medley, Florida. Firefighters responded to reports of an explosion and discovered multiple people on fire. Two people were pronounced dead at the scene and three others were injured, two of whom were critically hurt and sent to the hospital. The Miami-Dade Police Department Homicide Bureau and its arson unit are investigating the incident. This comes a day after one person was killed and several others injured in an explosion at a manufacturing plant in Ohio.

Avalanche in Washington's Cascade Mountains claims three lives
An avalanche that hit the Colchuck Peak in Washington's Cascade Mountains has killed three climbers, while one managed to survive with injuries. The group of six climbers were ascending a steep, snow-packed gulley when the slide struck on Sunday. The avalanche risk in the region remains high due to heavy snowfall and high winds. Members of the Northwest Avalanche Center and mountain rescue crews are scheduled to assess the hazards at the site on Wednesday. This is the deadliest avalanche in the U.S. since 2019 when four backcountry skiers were killed in an avalanche in Utah.

This is the first of many to come, I just wanted to see if people would enjoy seeing this daily or weekly. Of course, there are many more but just short and simple for today.
Thanks for reading.
