Honestly if you are actively doing anything illegal and worried about opSEC you should have your own servers for email, etc, and if you're really scheming you shouldn't be on forums and any service that doesn't have a fixed price with privacy/security related payment methods (such as Monero) are a red flag; just use Mullvad if you're lazy and have 60$ a year to spend, they make it so convenient and there are no cases that I know of of Mullvad giving up sensitive information and even they actually have a method in place where in the rare cases they cooperate with law enforcement the data isn't logged. Mullvad.

Also from a threat intelligence perspective nothing beats the great equalizer, theres only so much you can do to anonymize or segment online lives from threat actors/criminals/opposition and or LE.

Well of course this thread is not supposed to help with "hiding yourself while doing illegal activities". My concern was always that i did not want to know my ISP for example what am i doing on the internet, what am i searching for, etc... This was just supposed to show what company offers the most anonymity possible, and as we all now know it is Mullvad.

VPN shouldn't be the main concern if you are worried about your ISP; you should start with your router and operating system and then worry about proxy chaining / masking your IP which Mullvad is the best.

Of course it is if you are worried about your privacy and security, it doesn't matter if you aren't doing anything "weird" if you are focused on privacy you need to exclusively use libre software and hardware, if you are that privacy-focused.

Ultimately you never know when the glowies will come and snatch you and using something like Tails eliminates any extra precaution especially if you have a lot of telecommunication devices.

If you care about your privacy, then the cost isn't money, but convenience. At least when it comes to digital privacy. If you have your physical location secure and are doing everything legally, why would you still want corporations like Microsoft spying on you?

I would check out https://youtube.com/@mentaloutlaw

The problem is for gamers, libre software and hardware generally isn't compatible so it's all opportunity costs.

Again, all of this depends on your morals, hacktivisim, and internet literacy, but I would be as private as possible if your digital footprint isn't fried, better safe than sorry we're living in the digital age where anything you do online is permanent and will be used against you, if not by the Justice System the opposition. Trust me.

Eventually if you are hoarding enough crypto you're going to have to report income and taxes on it or who knows, you may get swatted, raided, and then those funds are confiscated and bam you're hit with conspiracy to commit money laundering... I'm giving hypotheticals but you can learn a lot from https://youtube.com/@crumbRS and https://youtube.com/@philion specifically there documentarys on DPR and just don't make those mistakes, it doesn't matter if you are doing anything cybercrime related or not, it's about privacy. The internet is not as niche as it was 5, 10, much less 20 years ago. There are more people on the internet/human population than ever before and it will continue to be that way. Even boomers and people in there 50s-60s are internet literate, probably more internet literate than some younger people. This wasn't the case just 5-10 years ago.

TLDR; using things like Windows 11 and an iPhone are great for your personal life, but if you aren't good at segmenting personal and online lives (such as even being on this forum, as glowies will eventually continue to lurk this forum like Vice Reporters did on OGU through kik) you are damned if you, damned if you don't. Even being on a forum like this is a risk to your opSEC a VPN won't save you.

For example, where I'm at you have to report you're crypto holdings and pay 7% tax if it exceeds 250,000$ a year, which is nothing compared to someone making 500,000$ a year on salary in the same state; so if you were to diversify your portfolio from the paper money from your job and then think you can dodge taxes it's just a Recipe for Disaster.

Everyone including governments want a piece of the crypto gold mine. North Korean State Actors are treating crypto like the California Gold Rush; it may be hard to get the jist of why a VPN in it of itself isn't enough for privacy/security/opSEC/threat-intell but ultimately, even just not being anonymous period (being on this forum) is enough to warrant using Tails and being super privacy focused.

mullvad is prob the best vpn indeed but vpns are flawed in the first place, you're essentially just switching your isp to them and for the THUGS in this thread no they don't care about protecting you just because you paid $5 Lol. "but they haven't publicly exposed someone yet" maybe so but they can still be a victim of gag orders etc. You're better off using TOR where you can

do you really think an operating system is that needed? I am not doing no weird stuff or sheit like that, i just dont like anyone seeing it. I aggree with a router tho, was lookin for something
To hide from your ISP? no not really but hes right in that apple/microsoft is basically spyware so theres not much reason for you not to switch unless you're a gamer

ProtonMail was forced by the Switzerland authorities to log information on a user, after having to log it they fought this in court and won. ProtonMail nor any email services tend to allow illegal activities and you cannot just ignore the government you’re based in. Nor does the Switzerland laws regarding email apply to their VPN.

However I would still use Mullvad over Proton due to XMR and a lot more.

I would still recommend Mullvad or one of the ones listed on your thread depending on your use case.

https://Techlore.tech/vpn

You can compare PerfectPrivacy and the others here but PerfectPrivacy doesn’t seem that great as they haven’t been audited and do not have honest marketing according to this community run vpn list.

Also the authorities only got given an IP which just proves ProtonMail does walk the walk in the sense they couldn’t give any email contents as it’s E2EE which is good. This could have been avoided if they used TOR or a highly reputable VPN provider such as Mullvad with multi hop.

Tutanota was also forced to log an IP.

Proton used Radware in 2018 and all of these claims have no proper proof. The Reddit link debunking these claims by the super paranoid may help.

They do have E2EE for their mail services as it has been audited & why do you think the authorities only gathered an IP address?
Its wrong because my reddit! Just use PGP lol. If you don’t understand smtp thats fine but pretending proton cannot intercept emails is redacted. Especially if received from another provider its literally impossible to have a situation where they dont have it unecrypted, they just say they encrypt it and dont save a copy but you just have to take their word on it. (They acknowledge this).

And regarding sent emails its not much better because noone really uses the password protected email thing (so sending unencrypted)

Its only ”e2ee” if you interact with someone else on protonmail (mostdon’t use their proton for exclusively this purpose) and this is assuming its implemented correctly which I can give you, it probably is, but outside of that its literally like any other email. They’re good at marketing shenanigans and you clearly swallowed it whole

I know that the emails are only E2EE at rest unless you use PGP or email proton to proton or only if you use the password protected email feature. Proton cannot see the email contents, however obviously if you’re sending to another email provider that’s not Proton the provider can see but not Proton itself.

Here’s an old guide:

Please don’t reply further until you have an original idea in your head and stop repeating howtogeek and reddit

But yes use PGP which you can doanywhere
