At first I tought that it would have been useful if bits were purchasable off the website, but I am starting to think that if they aren't it would be way better.
We are slowly creating an economy that is backed by the availability of limited credits, that aren't neither easy neither hard to obtain.
Keeping it like that would create a stable economy without having people selling at completely different rates and a too large market

I agree, I think site selling bit's would make the "game" of accumulating enough bits to buy the limited items compared to just when people can outright buy them

The downside to not selling bits though is not providing additional income to staff for the purpose of improving/advertising the site.

Perhaps only selling in bulk/for extremely high prices? (Much higher than the current economy)?

That way the options still there for those that want to buy instantly, and wouldn't crash the economy as they'd be selling at a huge loss

Exactly, also autobumper could be sold for both bits and crypto, to make it so that who is saving up bits without buying them can still get an autobumper

Agreed, bits can become primarily for cosmetics (items, awards) with the optional 'features' which can act as a byte sink. I wouldn't mind purchasing autobumper, thread styles and stickies only with $
