Here's a step-by-stp guide on how to secure IG accounts.
Step 1. Secure OGE info. OGE stands for "Original Email" meaning the first ever email that was associated with the instagram when it was made.
If you didn't get OGE this is a huge risk, as the owner of the OGE could potentially pull back with this info. If you are provided with OG info, secure to the best of your ability.
Step 2. Change the password: Login -> go to your profile -> click the 3 horizontal lines in the top right corner-> click on settings-> go to Security-> click on Password -> create a strong password
Step 3. Removing any 2FA enabled: Go to settings -> Security -> Two-factor authentication -> Remove any 2FA that is not yours -> click on additional methods -> backup codes -> click "get new codes" and screenshot / write down the new codes you receive
Step 4. Changing the Email and Phone number: this is if the account does not come with OGE / you want your own email on the instagram and don't trust the seller etc, Go to your profile -> edit profile -> Personal information settings -> click on "Email" and update it with your own address, instagram will send a confirmation email to the email you link, make sure to confirm it -> click on "Phone" and update it with your own SMS, instagram will send a confirmation text to you, make sure to confirm it.
Step 5. Removing any Payment methods: Go to your profile -> click the 3 horizontal lines in the top right -> Click on "Orders and Payments" shown Here -> Payment settings -> Remove any payment information that is not yours
Step 6. Removing and linked FB / Business accounts: Go to your profile -> click the 3 horizontal lines in the top right -> click on settings -> click on the "Meta Accounts Center" -> go to "Sharing across profiles" and remove any linked accounts -> then go to "Logging in with accounts" and remove any linked accounts.
Step 7. Miscellaneous: Go to settings -> Security -> "Emails from instagram" this will show you any warnings / security alerts the account has had in the last 14 days. Go to profile -> Edit Profile -> Personal information -> this will show you the Date of Birth, Email and Phone number linked -> Take note of the DoB and Gender.
Step 8. Logging out active devices: Go to settings -> Security -> at the bottom you will see "Data and History" -> here you will see active sessions -> remove any sessions that are not yours.
Important notes: Patience is your greatest ally when it comes to securing an instagram account, changing all the info quickly and spamming security codes etc will most likely flag the account as "Hacked" and as such the account will get "Locked" usually a 24hr page which requires you to put your phone number in.
This results in a ban 90% of the time. Do NOT add your phone number if instagram requests it, there are people who bypass this as a service.
