Lookonchain flagged another Lazarus-linked wallet coming to life on Aug 28, moving 244.148 $BTC, worth roughly $19.42 million at the time based on BTC trading near $79,500. No word yet on where the coins went, exchange, mixer, or just another wallet the group controls. Without that, you can't call this a cashout attempt, just a confirmed on-chain transfer tied to an address attributed to the group.
This is the second big move this month. On Aug 12, a separate Lazarus wallet sent 262.2 BTC (about $16.64M then) to a freshly created address. Between the two, that's over $36M in Bitcoin shuffled in August alone, though nothing ties the two batches together as one balance or one purpose.
Context for why people watch these wallets closely: Bybit sued North Korea, Lazarus, and the Reconnaissance General Bureau in a DC federal court on Aug 7 over the $1.5 billion hack from February 2025, and got a preliminary injunction freezing certain related assets. The FBI attributed that theft to the TraderTraitor cluster and has said it expects the stolen funds to keep moving before eventually being cashed out. Bybit's CEO said back in April that over a quarter of the stolen funds could no longer be traced.
Chainalysis put North Korea's 2025 crypto theft total at over $2 billion, accounting for the large majority of value lost to hacks that year, with a cumulative haul above $6.75 billion. Lazarus-linked activity has continued into 2026, including the $292M KelpDAO bridge drain in April.
