Most people think KYC checkers carefully examine microtext and hologram rainbows. In reality, 90% of online checks barely look at that.

Algorithms focus on something else:
noise uniformity around fine elements, absence of sharp edges in “holographic” zones, frequency characteristics of the shine and sharpness consistency. Real microtext on a scan often just turns into noise. A badly made imitation gives itself away with clean edges and unnatural contrast.

Not all countries pass equally well. There are documents systems “like” more and those the filters treat more strictly.

Right now some European and certain Asian IDs/passports with clear structure and stable scan quality feel relatively calmer. Harder are documents with unstable number generation, complex holography or frequent design updates.

This doesn’t mean “difficult” countries are impossible. It just means the file has to be built more carefully and current rejection patterns have to be taken into account.

THE DUTCH ID THAT DIDN'T GET BOUNCED AT VERIFICATION

The client came in with no small talk. One message – full profile: name, date of birth, Dutch citizenship, place of birth, height, hair and eye colour. Then a photo, and his signature as a separate PNG. He clarified one thing only: both sides needed.

What we had to build:

THE SECOND ATTEMPT ISN'T JUDGED FROM SCRATCH

A rejected file doesn't vanish. The image hash, device fingerprint, IP, submission time and form fields all stay in the profile, waiting.

Re-uploading the same photo in slightly better quality is the worst possible move. New hash, identical frame geometry, sensor noise and capture settings. The system sees a repeat and reacts harder than the first time.

The second rejection lands faster and usually without review. The third closes the door for months, sometimes for good.

A correct second attempt means a different file, a different shoot, a cleaned environment and a pause. Not cosmetics – a full rebuild.
